The Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA) of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will host two training sessions for traditional cannabis cultivators this week. The sessions on Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP) are designed to familiarize participants with global best practices and offer an outline for operating within the framework of GACP.
Implementation of GACP is crucial to farmers’ ability to export or sell cannabis products locally. An understanding of this cultivation standard is therefore a necessary requirement.
The first of the training sessions will be held at the Chateaubelair Methodist School on Wednesday, November 20th and will run from 4 – 6pm. The second will take place at the North Union Learning Resource Centre on Thursday, November 21st and will also run from 4 – 6pm. The sessions will be presented by Authority staff members with support from a consultant specializing in international production standards, relative to cannabis cultivation, extraction of cannabinoids, and quality control testing.
In addition to training of MCA staff in advanced implementation and auditing of GACP and GMP standards, the sessions are also intended to build capacity in cannabis production within the local industry.
The training also forms part of the government’s commitment to the strengthening of the position of traditional cultivators within the medicinal cannabis industry and ensure that they are not left behind.
